When Jackson and Tess reached out about their September wedding at The Stockroom at 230, I knew we were going to create something special together. As a Stockroom at 230 wedding photographer<\/a>, I’ve had the privilege of capturing celebrations in this stunning downtown Raleigh venue, but there was something about Tess and Jackson’s vision that immediately resonated with me. During our first phone call, Tess shared that her biggest priority was timeless photography<\/a>\u2014the kind of images she could look back on in twenty years and still absolutely love. That’s exactly the kind of photography I’m passionate about creating.<\/p>\n

A Love Story Rooted in Thoughtfulness<\/h2>\n

Jackson and Tess’s relationship is built on the kind of thoughtful gestures that make my job as a Raleigh wedding photographer so rewarding to capture. Jackson knows that Tess is a huge Bachelor fan, so for her birthday, he orchestrated his own personal rose ceremony just for her. Around 3:30 PM, Tess slipped into her wedding dress, surrounded by her mom Jackie and her bridesmaids\u2014her three sisters Isabelle, Olivia, and Sophie, along with Jackson’s sister-in-law Jane and her high school friend Eleanor. I had the privilege of capturing a first look between Tess and her bridesmaids and mom, one of those tender moments that always reminds me why I became a wedding photographer. The emotion in that Glass Box was palpable, and Tess’s smile as her mom saw her in her dress for the first time was absolutely radiant.<\/p>\n

The Stockroom at 230 is one of downtown Raleigh’s most distinctive wedding venues, and for good reason. The industrial-chic aesthetic with exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and warm lighting creates a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere that photographs beautifully. The ceremony took place right at The Stockroom at 230, and watching Tess walk down the aisle to Jackson at 4:40 PM was one of those moments where I’m grateful to witness such pure joy. Jackson and Tess chose not to do a first look together, which meant their ceremony was the first time Jackson saw Tess in her dress. The way his face lit up when he saw her is exactly why I love capturing authentic reactions over posed perfection.<\/p>\n

Sandra Hooten officiated a beautiful 25-30 minute ceremony that perfectly captured Jackson and Tess’s personalities. After the ceremony, guests made their way to the City of Raleigh Museum for cocktail hour around 5:30 PM\u2014a perfect opportunity for Jackson, Tess, and me to capture portraits around downtown Raleigh. The museum’s elegant spaces and the surrounding downtown area provided a beautiful contrast to The Stockroom at 230’s industrial aesthetic, giving their gallery wonderful variety while staying true to the timeless, classic style Tess had envisioned.<\/p>\n

Before we headed out, we tackled family photos at The Glass Box. I know from Tess’s testimonial that she had been worried about “getting friends and family members in and out of pictures in enough time,” but this is where my organizational approach really shines. With a detailed shot list and timeline coordination, we moved through family combinations seamlessly. Jackson’s parents, though divorced, were wonderfully amicable for photos, and we even captured special moments with grandparents Bob and Diane Kyner. DJ Ones kept the energy perfect throughout the evening, and Empire Eats delivered a delicious dinner that had guests raving.<\/p>\n

Around 7:00 PM, the wedding party made their grand entrance, and I positioned myself to capture both the excitement on Jackson and Tess’s faces and the cheering guests. These are the moments that become the images couples flip back to again and again in their albums.<\/p>\n

After dinner, the emotional moments really began to unfold. Four heartfelt speeches from Tess’s mom Jackie, Jackson’s dad Benton, best man Arthur (Jackson’s brother), and maid of honor Isabelle (Tess’s younger sister) had tears flowing and laughter echoing through The Stockroom at 230. Then came the dances\u2014their first dance as a married couple, Tess’s father-daughter dance, and Jackson’s mother-son dance. These are the moments I live for as a wedding photographer, when I can step back and simply document the love radiating through a room.<\/p>\n

Instead of a traditional cake cutting, Jackson and Tess had Krispy Kreme donuts delivered\u2014a fun, personal touch that their guests absolutely loved.
